Quick Start

Welcome to Platebreaker! This guide will get you started in 5 minutes.

Platebreaker is a nutrition-first recipe platform. You can discover recipes ranked by how well they fit your nutritional needs, plan meals, and track nutrient intake.

When you first open Platebreaker, you’ll be asked to provide:

  • Date of birth
  • Sex
  • Weight and height
  • Physical activity level

This information helps Platebreaker calculate personalized nutrient targets based on recommendations from leading nutrition authorities (NASEM, EFSA, NHMRC, NNR).

Search for recipes:

  • Browse featured recipes on the home screen
  • Select the day you’re finding meals for (defaults to today)
  • Use search filters to find specific cuisines or meal types
  • Each recipe shows a score from -10 to +10 based on your current nutritional status

Scores automatically adjust as you add meals to your plan.

Preference Filters: Each profile can have default preference filters (dietary restrictions, allergies, cuisine preferences). These filters apply automatically to searches. You can remove or add different filters for any specific search.

Family Meal Planning: Search can include multiple profiles (1 or more in any combination). For example, search with “Parent 1 + Parent 2 + Child 1” to get rankings based on the combined nutritional gaps of all three profiles. All filters from included profiles are applied—if one profile is vegetarian and another has nut allergies, search results will be vegetarian and nut-free.

Add recipes to your meal planner:

  • Tap “Add to Plan” on any recipe
  • Choose the date and meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack)
  • Platebreaker suggests optimal portion sizes for your needs
  • Set recurrence patterns: daily, weekly, or fortnightly for foods you eat regularly
  • Generate shopping lists from your planned meals

Monitor your progress:

  • See your daily nutrient intake on the dashboard
  • Pin nutrients you care about most
  • View trends over time
  • Check future nutrition based on planned meals

Recipe rankings automatically adjust based on:

  • Meals you’ve already added to your planner
  • Nutrients stored in your body from previous meals
  • Your current nutritional gaps

Your targets are calculated from:

  • Age, sex, weight, height
  • Physical activity level
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding status (if applicable)
  • Evidence-based recommendations from nutrition authorities
